With roughly 20 million residents in the Los Angeles area, it’s no surprise that many people end up driving to the cruise port and parking. The Port of Los Angeles still sees the Outer Harbor facility as a key part of its strategy to grow the cruise ship business. The cruise industry resumed operations last year, which most likely will lead to further attempts to make the port’s Outer Harbor plans a reality. Individual cruise line companies continued operating from various berths at the port, but there was no centralized passenger terminal. The Los Angeles Harbor has always had a pleasure cruise trade since the early 1900s, when ships carried passengers to Catalina Island.

Passenger shuttles are available from the terminal to parking lot areas. Taxi services are readily available from LAX along with ridesharing apps, including Uber and Lyft. Taxis are located on the arrivals level of the airport while rideshare passengers may walk or take a shuttle to the rideshare lot. Due to the location of the ports, there aren’t many independent lots nearby. Your best bet is to simply park at the cruise port using their official port parking. Like the Port of Los Angeles, you won’t have many options for parking other than the official port parking at the terminal.

In 2009 were approved development programs for San Pedro and Wilmington waterfronts (officially "LA Waterfront"). This port development project (budgeted USD 90 million) was fully paid by Port Los Angeles. LA port district is an independent department of the city's government. It is controlled by Board of Harbor Commissioners consisting of 5 members and 1 executive director. They are all appointed by the city mayor and approved by the city council. Only a 20 minutes drive from downtown L.A., this can be a great stop for the projected 600,000 passengers to come through the San Pedro terminal.

San Pedro is only a few minutes from hotels, restaurants, and tourist activities Long Beach and San Pedro.

At disembarkation, we lined up by the theater at the time we were given but no one seemed to even check that we were there at the right time so it was irrelevant. Just as an aside - The 1/27cruise has been messed with so much already that it is something many on our Roll Call would never have booked in it's present form. In addition our time in Panama was shortened from and full day and overnight and is now completely useless (4 PM - 11 PM). To top that off people who just sailed are saying they were not even allowed to walk around the port area due to construction. Parking costs USD 15 per night, a nice savings over cruise port parking.

The Port of Long Beach is used solely by Carnival Cruise Line, offering Mexican Riviera Cruises or short getaways to Catalina Island and Ensenada, Mexico.
